How long do you have to file a personal injury lawsuit?

Sometimes the unthinkable happens to New City area residents and they may be injured at work or in a serious car accident. They may undergo a medical procedure in which a physician makes a mistake, or a number of other accidents can occur due to no fault of the victim. If this case arises, a victim's family has the legal right to hold the negligent party responsible for their mistake.

In New York, if a person is injured by someone else due to no fault of their own, they are eligible, in most cases, to file a personal injury lawsuit. A personal injury lawsuit needs to be filed within three years of the date of the injury. Personal injury that results in the death of a victim have a two year statute of limitations, while personal injury that is the result of medical negligence have two and half years from injury to filing.

If a person has been injured at work, in a car accident, in a medical malpractice situation, from a manufacturer's negligence or any other situation they may want to get more information about their personal injury legal options. Doing so can help the victim and their family find out what happened to cause the unexpected injury. It can also potentially help the family recover compensation for their injury. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and other damages.

Unexpected injuries for New City residents can deeply affect a family. They not only may not be able to work, but they may also be facing thousands of dollars in unexpected expenses. It is important to hold a negligent party responsible for their actions so that they don't harm anyone else.
