Three construction workers killed on the job in less than a week

New City area residents go to work each day expecting they will return safely each night to their family. Most of the time this is true, but occasionally a serious work accident occurs. One of the more dangerous jobs a person can have is in construction. A construction accident is often serious.

Three construction workers have died in the New York City area within a week. One worker was killed at a building near the Holland Tunnel when he was setting up a crane and its counterweight fell on him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second worker was killed on Manhattan's East Side when he was hit by falling debris. And the third worker was killed in Brooklyn when he fell off a roof of a 13-story building. The Buildings Department is investigating all three deaths and has promised to hold responsible any negligent construction companies.

Construction workers understand that their jobs are often dangerous. But, even though a job may be dangerous, it is the employer's responsibility to make sure every safety precaution has been taken. If a family believes their loved one was killed on the job because of negligence, they may want to get more information about the law related to construction accidents. These situations can be complicated. It is important to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and determine who was at fault. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost wages and other damages.

Construction workers' jobs are often dangerous, but they also pay well. Families depend on construction workers to go to work and provide income for the family. When an accident occurs, it is important to help determine who was at fault and hold them accountable.
