Many New City area residents are employed in the construction industry. These jobs pay well, but can also be dangerous. Most construction employers understand that the most important thing is their worker safety. But, when safety issues fall through the cracks, a serious construction accident can occur.
A tragic accident recently occurred on a construction site in Long Island, New York. Three workers were positioning cable guide wiring on the road of North Bicycle Path, which was then supposed to be lifted above the street. Before that could happen, a pick-up truck drove over the wire that then got caught in the truck. As the truck drove, the wire caught around the three workers and dragged them for a distance until the truck turned over. One worker was killed, and two others were taken to a local hospital for their injuries. Authorities are investigating what happened to cause the serious accident.
No one expects their loved one will be the victim of a construction accident. Most days these hard workers go off to work and return home to their families and friends in the evening. When a construction accident occurs, it is important for families to get answers as to what happened. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost wages and other damages.
Although a construction job can be dangerous, there are many steps an employer can take to minimize those risks. It is important for a family to hold negligent parties responsible for a construction accident so that others are not placed at risk.
