Construction accidents: Crane injures 2 workers

Construction workers here in New York and across the country do important work that is often dangerous. One recent accident on a construction site that left two workers with serious injuries shows just how dangerous it can be. It is imperative that workers understand the risks of construction accidents and their rights should one happen to them.

According to authorities, the accident happened on a recent morning at the site of a house under construction. A crane operator was using a crane to haul plywood to the upper floor of the home. The aerial boom on the crane broke, fell and hit a construction worker, causing him traumatic injuries. Falling debris from the impact struck and hit another worker, causing a head injury.

Both workers had to be rushed to area hospitals for treatment. Police say that they believe the incident was an accident and caused by a failure on the crane's turntable. It is unclear whether officials in law enforcement or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will do any further investigation to determine exactly what occurred.

When construction accidents like this one happen, the results can be devastating for both victims and their families. Those in a similar situation here in New York have every right to file a workers' compensation claim to pursue recovery of medical expenses and lost wages. An attorney with extensive knowledge of this area of the law can help guide construction workers and their loved ones as to the best course of action.
